Ribbon of Poppies

Published: 09 April 2018

This year Sevenoaks Town Council wishes to plant Sevenoaks red to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW1. Sevenoaks in Bloom will participate in the national scheme to create a ribbon of red flowers throughout the town.

Sevenoaks Town Council needs your help to achieve the most outstanding visual floral display in remembrance of the millions of lives lost in conflict. Sevenoaks is not able to produce the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red displays created by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, but as a town we can pull out all the stops to have as many floral displays as possible.

In addition to the hanging baskets, and flowering troughs, poppies will be planted at strategic locations around the town by the Royal British Legion, Scouts, Guides, Cadets and other organisations who wish to take part. Individuals will also be asked to knit red poppies which will be used to adorn the railings on The Vine (for a pattern please email osl@sevenoakstown.gov.uk ).

The Town Council has a budget towards the floral displays and hanging baskets however would welcome business donations, large or small, to help make this commemoration the most successful and colourful as possible. We would also like companies to plant any window boxes, troughs, planters in red and also to share the #RibbonofPoppiesSevenoaks through social media to attract as many supporters as possible to take part.
