Young filmmakers backed by grant from Sevenoaks Town Council

Published: 12 December 2025

Sevenoaks Town Council is supporting the Stag Youth Theatre with an ambitious new project, giving young people the chance to devise, film and star in a medieval fantasy feature-length film.

Around 40 young people will get the opportunity to work both in front of the camera and behind, learning a wide range of production skills. The £2,000 grant from Sevenoaks Town Council will fund props, costumes, location fees, staffing costs and film equipment.

Filming is scheduled to take place at locations across Kent between January and March 2026. A premiere is planned for the main theatre at the Stag in Sevenoaks once the film is complete.

This funding was approved by the Town Council’s Youth Services Committee in November. The Committee’s Chair, Cllr Chloe Gustard, said, “We’re delighted to support this project which gives young people a unique chance to be part of a full film production. We’re excited to see what they produce.”

Stag Youth Theatre offers weekly workshops, productions, and film projects for people aged 11 to 18 years old. It has previously produced smaller ‘film in a week’ projects. Simon Cossons, Director of Stag Youth Theatre, said, “I’ve run the Stag Youth Theatre for sixteen years and this is by far our biggest project we’ve attempted”.

This opportunity is being offered free to the youth theatre cast to help them develop acting and crew skills, build confidence, and provide a fun environment to make new friends.
