PRESS RELEASE: The Great Big Green Week

Published: 01 June 2023

The Great Big Green Week is the UK's biggest celebration of community action to help tackle climate change and protect nature. Between the 10th and 18th June, thousands of people will be hosting local events such as litter picking, seaweed foraging, climate film screenings, nature walks to highlight the need for environmental change on a local level.

Sevenoaks Town Council would like to do our part in The Great Big Green Week by offering everyone the opportunity to make bee or bug hotels for our green spaces. Due to the loss to local habitat, climate change, and pesticide use these small but important insects are slow diminishing. Bug and bee hotels act as a great hideaway home for wildlife, hosting pollinators such as solitary bees, ladybirds and woodlice, or even hedgehogs and toads!

If you'd like to make a bug or bee hotel for the towns green spaces, drop your hotel off at the Bat and Ball Community Centre, TN14 5DN between the 12th - 23rd June 9am - 4pm. We'll begin distributing these around our green spaces such as The Vine, Greatness Recreational ground, and Sevenoaks Common.

This month we also have our Sevenoaks In Bloom tidy up days at the Stag Theatre and Vine Gardens. For details about getting involved in gardening or tidy up days, please contact Beatriz Day at Sevenoaks Town Council osl@sevenoakstown.gov.uk.
