Burying of Time Capsule – 1st November 2019
The burying of a time capsule by Cllr Nicholas Busvine OBE Town Mayor and Sir Michael Fallon MP will take place to commemorate the
rebuilding of the Community Centre on Friday 1st November 2019
at 10.00 a.m.
The project involves extending the existing hall and the installation of a new mechanical ventilation systems. The hall will incorporate new suspended acoustic rafts and lighting. The roof structure will be replaced with a new upgraded system to improve the energy efficiency of the building and renewable technology, such as solar panels will be installed. The centre will also have a covered external play area, which will have a rubber crumb play surface.
The works are part of a program of regeneration in the surrounding areas of Sevenoaks known as the Northern Sevenoaks Masterplan. Sevenoaks Town Council had made a commitment to the regeneration of Bat & Ball area and believed that a new community centre was a key component to this. The plan includes the refurbishment of the Bat and Ball railway station situated next to the community centre, affordable housing and commercial space in the future.
The centre is being renovated with the intention of attracting venue hire for weddings and other functions. There will also be new meeting and function rooms, which will be used to generate a secondary source of income for the council.
