PRESS RELEASE: Sevenoaks Town Council is one of the first councils in the country to sign up to the Civility & Respect Pledge

Published: 20 July 2022

On Monday 18th July 2022, Cllr Rachel Parry, Mayor of Sevenoaks signed the Civility & Respect Pledge on behalf of Sevenoaks Town Council.

The Civility and Respect Project is a national project to encourage an improved behaviour culture in the town and parish council sector, which was highlighted when a parish council meeting with problems went viral.  Fortunately, Sevenoaks Town Council does not have such problems.

The Civility & Respect Project will do this by providing

· New training initiatives for Councillors and Clerks

· New governance guidance

· Intervention and assistance for struggling councils

· Encouraging councils to sign the Civility & Respect Pledge.

Sevenoaks Town Council’s Chief Executive Linda Larter has been involved in the development of the Civility and Respect Project via the Society of Local Council Clerks and was please to help launch the project at a national event last week held by the National Association of Local Councils.

It is hoped that many more town and parish councils will sign up to the Civility & Respect Pledge.  For more details see www.nalc.gov.uk or www.slcc.co.uk
