PRESS RELEASE: Two iconic locations in Sevenoaks Town compete to win Gold in RHS competition
Published: 10 May 2023
Summer has arrived and Sevenoaks Town is ready to follow on from the success in the 2022 RHS National and regional South & South East in Bloom competitions with two of its most iconic locations – Vine Garden and Upper High Street Garden – amongst the locations competing to win Gold.
Historic Vine Garden has over the years been the place to enjoy music, take children to play, or simply stroll and people watch. As the heart of Sevenoaks, Vine Garden hosts many events including the summertime Music on the Bandstand and valuable community events such as the recent Climate Fair.
The tranquil and picturesque public Upper High Street Garden dates from 1949 and provides a quiet spot away from the High Street with several benches for repose. Shrubs and bushes have been planted in conjunction with local charities and organisations to commemorate various centenaries.
The signature colours in this year’s In Bloom entry will be purple and gold with special emphasis on plants that bees and other pollinators enjoy. As before there will be edibles intermingled amongst the blooms.
Volunteers are already undertaking a wide range of In Bloom tasks using sustainable gardening practices alongside the Town Council Open Spaces team.
