PRESS RELEASE: LONGSPRING WOODS PLEDGE CAMPAIGN UPDATE AND PLEA FOR PLEDGES

Published: 16 February 2024

Sevenoaks Town Council’s Longspring Woods Pledge Campaign, which seeks to find match funding from the public up to £100k in order to fund the purchase of 14 acres of ancient woodland, is one week from its deadline today. (15th February 2024, with the closure date 23rd February 2024).

So far, we have received pledges up to £22,370, with a remaining £77,630 of funding to find. The public has been extremely generous and responded with enthusiasm to this incredibly important project, and the Town Council is deeply grateful to those that have already pledged and offered their support In Kind.

We are nearly ¼ of the way there, however, there is still a long way to go in order for us to be able to secure the future of this incredibly important site.

Rich in biodiversity that cannot be replaced or replicated elsewhere, this ancient woodland is over 400 years old and located within the Green Belt and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Purchasing this land will allow the woods to be opened up to the public and to continue to be protected and enjoyed by generations to come.

Below are a couple of comments that the Town Council has received about this proposed project:

“I think this is a really worthwhile project. A 400 year old wood owned forever and for all the people in the town - what an opportunity!
It was so lovely to see a Town Council really trying to achieve something so special - even more so when all around seem to be sinking in negativity.
Well done to the whole Town Council!”

“I have walked many times in these woods and would like to think they can be retained for future generations to enjoy.”
