PRESS RELEASE

UPDATE: Next meeting Wednesday 8th August 2024 6pm

Sevenoaks sports providers/groups are working together with Sevenoaks Town Council to prepare second Sports Strategy for future provision

In October 2023, Sevenoaks Town Council created a Working Group comprising local sports providers/groups, with the aim to prepare a second Sports Strategy for the Town. Similar to the first Strategy (pictured below), which resulted in the investment of over £1.2 million into sports provision within the last 8 years, this document will look at opportunities, existing provision and future need of local groups, and set out priorities and recommendations for the future of sports provision.

The purpose of this collaborative project is to support and facilitate growth of local sports provision, looking at opportunities for shared use and ways to maximise assets. By forming an evidence base which has been consulted on and agreed across various sports, it will also be able to support grant funding applications to help deliver particular priorities and recommendations identified within the Strategy.

Since October, the Sevenoaks Town Sports Strategy (STSS) Working Group, which is open to any representative of a local Sevenoaks Sports group, organisation or provider, has met three times to discuss their respective needs, aspirations and obstacles to these. Feedback is being collated by the Town Council into a draft second Sports Strategy, with consultation on the first draft hoped to be completed by the end of 2024.

Contributors to the project include:

Sevenoaks Town Football Club, Everyone Active, Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club, Sevenoaks Suns Basketball, Sevenoaks Tennis Club, FORM Personal Training, Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club, Sevenoaks Bowling Club (outdoor Bowls), West Kent Sports & Wellbeing, Sevenoaks School, Sevenoaks Hockey Club, Sevenoaks Rugby, Holmesdale Cricket Club, Knole Squash/Sevenoaks Padel, Hollybush Residents Association, Meeting Place/Tarmac, with input as well from Sevenoaks District Council.
