PRESS RELEASE: Green Flag Award for The Vine
Published: 23 July 2024
Sevenoaks Town Council is delighted that The Vine has been awarded Green Flag status for the 8th year running since joining the accreditation scheme in 2017 and is officially recognised as one on the country’s best parks.
The Vine is among another record-breaking year with 2227 parks and green spaces achieving the coveted status, an increase of 344 green flags awarded since 2018.
Volunteers from local organisations and businesses, together with Sevenoaks Town Council staff, have worked tirelessly throughout the year to make the gardens look their very best this year.
Cllr Dr Canet, Chair of the Community Asset Working Group, said: “The Vine is a vital focal point for the town and its people. It is a green space enjoyed by all generations for picnics and music, specialist markets, sharing environmental ideas and wonderful cricket on our historic ground.
The Vine is a sanctuary for the last remaining Oak following the Great Hurricane of 1987 and is also home to the seven younger trees. We will continue to maintain this valued park for future generations.”
Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “Prioritising parks and green spaces is vital for our future, so we are delighted to see that 2,227 sites have met the standards required for a Green Flag Award, reflecting the tireless work of those tasked with looking after these important national assets.”
