New lights switched on in the Vine Gardens in Sevenoaks
New lights illuminating the trees of the Vine Gardens have been switched on and are currently shining red for Remembrance ahead of Sunday.
Sevenoaks Mayor Cllr Libby Ancrum was joined by Cllr James London, Vice Chair of the Sevenoaks Royal British Legion, on Tuesday [Nov 5] for the switch-on.
The lights will be in place all year round and can be set to different colours for different events.
The installation of the new lighting in the Vine Gardens meets several of Sevenoaks Town Council’s key targets. It contributes to the development of the proposed Cultural Centre, enhances the trees during the night time and provides additional security.
The lights provide an enhanced feeling of safety using the space after dark and link the Vine Gardens to additional cultural activities, for example being currently set to red as part of the Remembrance Week commemoration. They also improve the public realm offer in the town.
The £24,000 project was funded with £10,000 from the Government Levelling Up Fund and
£14,000 from the STC Public Realm Earmarked Reserves.
The town’s Remembrance Parade and Service will take place at the Vine War Memorial from 10.45am on Sunday [10 November].
