Appeal for volunteers to start up a new twinning group with a town in Italy

Sevenoaks has been twinned for many years with Pontoise in France and Rheinbach in Germany. The twinning arrangements are coordinated by a group of volunteers with a small grant each year from the Town Council.

Following a request from Italy, Sevenoaks Town Council are reaching out to the community to see if there is interest from any volunteers to start a new twinning arrangement. Please contact the Community Engagement Manager on comms@sevenoakstown.gov.uk in the first instance.

The request was received from the town of Ceto in Italy to start a new twinning group with Sevenoaks.

"I lived in Sevenoaks for a few years in the 90's as a child. I now have been living in Italy for the past 20 odd years, and I am an English teacher in a local high school.

I recently started volunteering in the council of my hometown, Ceto in the province of Brescia, northern Italy. This is where my idea, and my proposal to you, of a twinning program between our two towns comes.

Ceto is a quaint, medieval town nestled in the alps of Valcamonica, a beautiful and serene valley to the north of lake Iseo. The people are friendly and welcoming, the food is incredible and as you might expect, the nature and the mountains are breath taking.

I would love to speak with you about the possibility of twinning our two towns, to welcome some English citizens, students, and tourists. I can envision a not-too-distant future where people come and go from both our towns as if it were a second home. Our mayor, Marina Lanzetti, is really hopeful about this opportunity. Of course this would be positive for both towns, as we could welcome each other into our homes, learn about different cultures and work on social projects together.
