Published: 05 February 2025

Women are invited to a day of networking and inspiring speakers at the Mayor’s International Women’s Day event on Friday, March 7 in Sevenoaks.
The event was established five years ago with the concept of marking the global day by bringing together women working in different professions with young female students and pupils from schools and colleges in the area.
Around 50 young people are invited to attend free of charge with each table being planned as a mix of students and professional women to allow for networking and discussion.
Tickets are available for women at the event at Bat and Ball Centre in Cramptons Road, Sevenoaks, from 11.45am until 2.40pm, which includes a sit-down lunch.
The event offers the chance for young students who may be considering what to study or what career path to choose, to meet and be encouraged by women in different fields from lawyers to architects to civil servants. They can hear the background to their careers, their training and experiences and make contacts or have informal mentoring at the event.
Mayor of Sevenoaks Cllr Libby Ancrum said: “Once again we are publicly celebrating and affirming the importance of women in community life. I am always struck by the many hidden stories: it is so important for young women today to know more about these and to realise what can be achieved with will and determination.”
The day offers pupils the chance to attend a real business networking event, and to have access to guidance and inspiration at a time when they may be starting to think about careers, training or university applications.
There are three speakers at the event aimed to expand the minds and horizons of students attending:
Trevor Saving is an Executive Advisor for Arsenal Football Club, with specific focus on the Women’s Team.
Lesley Tipler, is from the Osterberg Collection: Martina Bergman Österberg established Britain’s first physical education teacher training college for women in Hampstead in 1885, moving to Dartford in 1895 as part of her quest for female emancipation through education.
Sam Palmer is an experienced Sevenoaks fitness coach and specialist in women’s health, exercise and managing Menopause.
Proceeds will go to the Mayor’s charities Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees and Bradbourne Riding for the Disabled.
Tickets are £38pp which includes a two-course sit-down lunch, and the ticket price includes funds to pay for a student to come to the lunch.
