Concert and beacon lighting for 80th Anniversary of VE Day

Sevenoaks Town Council is inviting residents to special events to mark VE Day on the Vine Gardens on May 8.
There will be a fish and chip van on the Vine Gardens from 6pm for this traditional British meal, and an ice cream van. The café on the Vine will also be open and the Pavillion bar.
Residents can also bring a picnic to enjoy on the grass.
There will be a free concert in the Bandstand from 6.30pm-8pm with the Jean Bentley Orchestra, playing wartime tunes and songs.
Then at 8pm all will join the procession to the War Memorial and Beacon for a moving tribute ceremony and Beacon Lighting at 8.30pm. There will also be a special musical performance at the Beacon after it is lit.
In the theme of public service, there will also be a volunteer showcase on the Vine Gardens during the evening, with local charities and groups having displays and welcoming people interested in finding out about volunteering.
