Springtime preparations are under way in Sevenoaks for Britain in Bloom!

Published: 04 April 2025

Spring flowers are bursting out on the Vine gardens and throughout Sevenoaks as the town starts to prepare for the national finals of Britain in Bloom 2025.
Local people are joining in the Sevenoaks campaign as the South East entry in the Town Centre category of the RHS Britain in Bloom 2025. Themed on ‘Celebrating Bugs’, the entry features planting for pollinators and edible planting.
Enthusiastic crafting volunteers at Rockdale Housing Association, Knole U3A, Bat and Ball Forget-me-not café, Knit and Natter and other craft groups are producing swarms of bees, ladybirds and caterpillars as part of the displays.
Gardening volunteers from groups such as the Soroptimists and Living Landscapes already help with flower beds on the Vine Gardens and by the station, while West Kent Housing, Southeastern Trains and Rockdale Housing Association work to keep their areas of the town blossoming.
Volunteers are needed to help with weeding and tidy up days (dates to be confirmed) before the judging. Volunteers are asked to ‘Adopt a Planter’ to water as the judges will be visiting during the hot, thirsty months of July and August.
School art departments are creating outdoor sculptures and schools are being asked to paint ladybird and insect rocks to display.
Events are being held to tie in with the theme of ‘Bugs’ for Britain In Bloom, including a free children’s theatre performance of Professor Slug’s House of Bugs and a rock painting workshop on the Vine Gardens on Sunday, May 4, in a marquee.
If you would like to be involved in In Bloom, as a volunteer crafter, gardener, or to help with the tidy up days in the summer before the judging, or to Adopt a Planter, please email osl@sevenoakstown.go.uk or call the town council on 01732 459953.
