PRESS RELEASE: Sevenoaks Town Council commits to registering further Assets of Community Value
Published: 22 April 2025
Sevenoaks Town Council has successfully nominated a number of sites within the last few years as Assets of Community Value, with some of the most prominent sites of note including Bradbourne Lakes, The Stag Theatre, and Longspring Woods – the latter of which was later acquired by the Town Council via this Community Right to Bid scheme.
The Right to Bid is a national process whereby local land and buildings may be nominated by community groups and town / parish councils to the local authority – in this case, Sevenoaks District Council – as Assets of Community Value. The outcome is that registered assets are required a short moratorium period before they may be put on the open market, during which local groups or town / parish councils may place a bid and raise funds to acquire the community asset. Although not obligating the owners to sell to a community group, this process can assist in securing an asset for continued community use.
Following further successful asset nominations – the most recent being the Bradbourne RDA horses field on Bradbourne Vale Road, - Sevenoaks Town Council has committed to pursuing the below additional registrations. Applications will be submitted to the District Council in due course, with hope that Officers will concur with the Town Council’s argument that each proposed asset – in their current or recent use – actively further the local community’s social wellbeing, or cultural, recreational or sporting interests:- Sevenoaks Bus Station building, Café and Public Toilets
- Sevenoaks Post Office / Sorting Office
- Sevenoaks Magistrate Court
- The Shambles (pictured above)
- Woodland opposite No’s 36-74 Hillingdon Avenue
- Sevenoaks Environmental Park, Play Area and Open Space
- West Kent Mind premises at 28-34 St John’s Road
