FOR KING CHARLES III CORONATION
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS?
Following a request from Sevenoaks Town Council to the local community for interested parties in wanting to assist with the celebration of the King’s Coronation a pack meeting took place on 8th February with 40+ attending, most of whom represented wider organisations.
Many ideas were discussed and the logistics to deliver them. It was noted that a considerable amount of volunteers would be needed and further meetings arranged to agree logistics.
The following initial outline programme was agreed for Sevenoaks to celebrate
King Charles III Coronation:
National Programme
Saturday 6th May 2023 Coronation takes place at Westminster Abbey
Sunday 7th May 2023 The Big Lunch
Monday 8th May 2023 The Big Help Out
THE BIG LUNCH CELEBRATION – SUNDAY 7TH MAY
To hold a bring your own food lunch/street party in the High Street. Tables to be provided, set out over the whole length of the High Street.
• Sevenoaks High Street to be closed to traffic for lunchtime
• Trestle tables provided length of road – public invited to bring their own fold up chairs (some provided for less able) and picnics or purchase from nearby eateries.
• Public encouraged to provide food to share
• Roads to be decorated
• Street entertainment and stalls
• Young people encouraged to design and wear a Crown
• Shop window competition
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR HUGE OPERATION OF STORING,
MOVING AND SETTING UP TABLES ETC.
Local residents are also encouraged to hold their own events in their locality.
BIG HELP OUT – MONDAY 8TH MAY
Public across the country
are being encouraged to volunteer and help their local community.
· Organisations needing volunteers to contact Sevenoaks Town Council
· Sevenoaks Town Council will provide details for those wishing to volunteer.
ADDITIONAL CORONATION COMMEMORATION
· Souvenir brochure to be produced listing all events taking place
· Children’s Art & Crafts events
· Schools encouraged to bury Time Capsules and provide details of their contents
· Exhibition of local photos from previous coronation
· Tree Sculpture with leaves inscribed with names of babies born in the Coronation year
· Competition for Schools to build Insect Hotels
· Sevenoaks in Bloom to have a theme of Crowns, and purple and gold colours.
