Sevenoaks Town Council delivers action-packed calendar for local youth

Published: 18 September 2025

Over the past few months, Sevenoaks Town Council has hosted a range of exciting activities for young people across Sevenoaks. Free events held across the town over the summer have engaged hundreds of families and offered opportunities for learning, entertainment and creativity.

Skate Jam

Sevenoaks Town Council kicked off the holidays with Skate Jam at Greatness Recreation Ground, hosted by King Ramps. The event welcomed between 150 and 200 young people who enjoyed skateboarding, BMX, and scootering demos and coaching sessions from professional athletes. This year’s Skate Jam was funded by the Youth Council, Youth Services Committee, Sevenoaks Area Youth Trust and West Kent Housing.

Many community organisations hosted activities and stalls:
  • Batch 18 served up refreshments and ice cream
  • Barclays Bank offered advice on scam prevention
  • Sevenoaks Repair Café ran a popular bike repair workshop
  • West Kent Housing handed out free popcorn
  • Kenwood Trust engaged young people on the effects of drugs and alcohol
  • Sevenoaks Area Youth Trust hosted a game of giant Jenga
  • House in the Basement brought the fun with a giant inflatable dartboard
  • Kent Police offered safety advice and tips for keeping bikes secure.

In the lead up to Skate Jam, Samsara Sport delivered free skateboarding sessions, sponsored by Sevenoaks Town Council and District Council.

Ollie Ireland, Samsara Sport Coach, shared, “The skate sessions went really well this year. We had a good cross-section of local young people from a variety of schools. I had feedback from parents that the course gave skills and confidence for their children to go back to a skatepark again.”

Bandstand concerts

Throughout the holidays on Thursdays and Sundays, families gathered at the Vine to listen to free Music on the Bandstand concerts. On Thursday evenings, in good weather, there was a free Play Place bouncy castle for kids to enjoy.

Staff from Play Place reported, “Families expressed significant appreciation for the presence of the bouncy castle, noting its accessibility as a free activity. In the context of ongoing financial pressures due to the cost-of-living crisis, the availability of no-cost entertainment was seen as a meaningful gesture.”

Family Fun Day

August saw the return of the popular Family Fun Day at Greatness Recreation Ground. Organised by Sevenoaks District Council and Town Council, there were fun activities for all ages. Families enjoyed games and interactive stalls from West Kent Housing, Play Place, We Make Footballers, Kenwood Trust, and Kent Police. Quest 4 Entertainment delighted kids with their fascinating baby dinosaurs, while Sevenoaks Town Council engaged children with bug-themed rock painting in support of the town’s Britain in Bloom campaign.

Fungi Frida and the Myco Heroes theatre shows

The Town Council’s free summer events concluded with children’s theatre shows exploring how mushrooms can help with recycling. Nearly 400 people attended across four locations in Sevenoaks – Bat and Ball Centre, Pontoise Park, Greatness Recreation Ground and the Vine. Both kids and adults joined in with the interactive show, even the Mayor of Sevenoaks got involved in his full regalia.

Rounding up the busy summer, Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Tony Clayton, said, “I was very sad to miss the Skate Jam – it was a really successful event with so many people having fun, together with local organisations giving practical help. Family Fun Day with Sevenoaks District Council was a great collaborative success too, working together to bring fun and games to Greatness Rec. The children’s theatre shows were very educational – I learned a lot about mushrooms and even managed to get in on the act!”
