Sevenoaks celebrates the start of the festive season with spectacular lights switch-on
Published: 02 December 2025
On Saturday 29 November, thousands turned out to enjoy a festive afternoon in Sevenoaks at the much-loved Christmas Lights-Switch On event, organised by the Town Council.
The community got into the Christmas spirit as they were entertained by music and shows on the stage, as well as a huge array of attractions including rides, games and stalls in the High Street and Bligh’s Meadow.
Children were particularly thrilled to meet special guests Bluey and Disney Frozen’s Elsa, Anna and Olaf, who brought an extra touch of magic to the event.
Tap-dancing elves delighted the crowds as families waited excitedly to meet Father Christmas at the ever-popular Santa’s Grotto. A bubble-blowing elf proved to be another highlight, as she captivated both children and adults with her spectacular giant bubbles.

From the stage, two fantastic choirs – Amherst School Choir and Granville School Choir, community band Old School Samba, talented 15-year-old Amelie Lucas, and women’s a cappella choir Green Street Blues filled the High Street with music. A spokesperson from Old School Samba commented, “Cracking gig at the Sevenoaks Christmas Light switch on, fab crowd too!”

As the daylight faded, the grand moment arrived as Silly Billy and Dame Elaine from Sevenoaks Panto and the Mayor of Sevenoaks lead the countdown. Cheers erupted as the stunning Christmas lights illuminated the town, marking the official start of the festive season in Sevenoaks.
The lights themselves were also a big hit, one resident contacted Sevenoaks Town Council saying that the lights were, ‘exceptionally tasteful - the most beautiful lights ever’.
Sevenoaks Town Council thanks all those who supported this year’s event, including local businesses who provided sponsorship. This year’s star sponsors were Specsavers, Manak Solicitors, Bluebird Care Sevenoaks and Bligh’s Meadow.
