Linoprint of Bradbourne Lakes joins Sevenoaks Town Council’s public art collection

For over half a century, Mayors of Sevenoaks have donated local artwork featuring a Sevenoaks scene to the Town Council’s public art collection.

This tradition continued at this month’s Sevenoaks Town Council meeting, where the Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Tony Clayton, donated artwork by Carole Aston.

This year’s chosen piece is a vibrant linoprint depicting ducks on Bradbourne Lakes. The artwork will be displayed in the Town Council offices on Bradbourne Vale Road.

Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Tony Clayton, explained why he had chosen this particular artwork, “Sevenoaks Town has such a wealth of nature in its green spaces, and Carole’s picture portrays it beautifully. It celebrates the streams and lakes, the trees and water birds which make such a contribution to the town. It’s a heritage we must protect at least as fiercely as we do our historic buildings and landscapes.”

Artist Carole Aston commented on the inspiration and technique behind the work, “I often walk round Bradbourne Lakes and this linoprint is based on sketches made there of the ducks and water. Two lino blocks were used, one for the blue/green background and one for the black areas. I enjoyed carving all the patterns made by the ripples.”

Last year, to celebrate 50 years of Sevenoaks Town Council, a commemorative booklet showcasing the full collection of donated artworks was produced. Copies of the booklet are available free of charge from the Town Council offices.
