Sevenoaks Town Council has led on and committed funding towards the delivery of this project since its initial proposal as part of Kent County Council’s 2022 public consultation on the Sevenoaks Town 20mph scheme. Funded by Sevenoaks Town Council and delivered in September 2024, the 20mph scheme will soon be supported by the new zebra crossing, which will facilitate safe passage for pedestrians at this busy junction. Delivering a safe crossing at Dartford Road has long been a high priority of Sevenoaks Town Council, due to its popular use by commuters to Sevenoaks Train Station, as well as by students to several nearby schools.

The Town Council’s dedicated funding of £25,000 (comprising solely of CIL* monies collected from local developers) towards the project has since been met by a further £20,000 from Sevenoaks District Council’s own CIL funds. The remainder of the delivery cost (£55,000) is understood to have been secured by Kent County Council, via Active Travel England funding.
